"The Unveiling of My Journey to Joy"

My journey is marked by a radiant smile that often served as a disguise, hiding a myriad of pain, brokenness, rejection, bitterness, and simmering anger. This smile, once a façade, garnered compliments, falsely confirming a life of harmony. However, behind it, a starkly different reality unfolded – one marked by adversity, inner turmoil, and a gradual erosion of my true self.

From a tender age, the weight of rejection, stemming from unresolved daddy issues, cast a shadow on my path. Despite occasional encounters with my father, his absence as a nurturing presence left an indelible void. The absence of affirming words of love rendered me emotionally numb upon his passing, fueling a quest for love in all the wrong places. Clueless about my own worth, I made regrettable choices, finding myself in a desolate place with two children from different fathers, all looking to me for guidance while I grappled with my own sense of direction.

Gratefully, a praying mother emerged as a beacon of love and compassion, stepping in to fill the maternal role I struggled to embody. Battling not just rejection but also anger and brokenness from a self-inflicted tumultuous journey, I reached a breaking point at 26. In a desperate plea, I cried out to the one constant and consistent presence in my life – God, who heard my cry.

If there's a biblical story that mirrors mine, it would be that of the woman at the well – broken upon arrival, yet leaving healed and fulfilled, a testament to God's plan. Adopting God's perspective became a transformative lens for my imperfect but evolving journey.

Although at the age of 26, my life didn't suddenly become perfect-but it did begin to shift. It was a turning point, a moment where everything in me decided that enough was enough. I had made mistakes, taken detours, and faced my share of heartbreak and lessons-but something changed. I stopped just surviving and started seeking real purpose. For the first time, I felt myself stepping onto the right path. Not because everything was easy or neatly falling into place, but because I was finally grounded in something deeper. My focus turned toward what truly matters: living a life that pleases God and becoming the best version of myself-not just for me, but for my boys.
They became my "why." I knew I had to be better, stronger, more present-not just in words, but in action. I wanted to be the kind of mother they could look up to, the kind of example that would show them what faith, resilience, and love really look like.
Fast forward to the age of 34—after years of growth, healing, and learning to fully trust God with my life—He saw fit to bless me with something I had long prayed for, even in silence: a partner. Not just any man, but a man after God's own heart. In His perfect timing, God brought Pastor Derrick Johnson into my life, and in 2009, I became his wife. It wasn’t just a marriage—it was the merging of two journeys, two testimonies, and two families. Together, we now share a beautiful blended family of eight children. Each child a unique reflection of love, resilience, and purpose. One of our precious children now rests in heaven, and though his presence is missed every single day, his spirit lives on in our hearts and in our home. This chapter of my life is filled with new challenges, deeper faith, and so much love. Being a wife, a mother, and a woman of God. Through it all, I am reminded that God’s timing is not only perfect—it’s personal.
God has now given me a clear mandate: to uplift and guide women in realizing and walking in their God-given purpose. Out of my healing, Sisters Helping Sisters Win was born, mirroring the encounter at the well where Jesus met me and is ready to meet others.
